What is Vertcoin (VTC)?

VTC is the native asset of Vertcoin that is designed to make cryptocurrency mining available to anyone. In response to Litecoin losing its independence to ASIC control in January 2014, Vertcoin was developed as a graphics card-mined variant of Bitcoin.

By becoming a completely ASIC-resistant protocol, Vertcoin intends to provide consumers with complete control over their money. ASIC-resistant cryptocurrencies and algorithms have previously failed because ASIC developers just create a closed loop to target them, making escape unlikely. However, Vertcoin has committed to hard fork whenever ASICs are capable of mining VTC.

Therefore, it would be unprofitable for ASIC miners to try to target VTC because the devices are costly to make and would stop operating after the hard fork, resulting in too little profit, if any at all. Because of this mechanism, Vertcoin is among the most ASIC-resistant currencies in the industry.

Vertcoin is managed by a team of six engineers led by James Lovejoy, a key member of the Digital Currency research project at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
