Unstoppable Domains Releases Unstoppable Messaging Built On XMTP

Unstoppable Domains announced its new project, Unstoppable Messaging, built on XMTP and based on Web3 domains.

The company presented it as “a new way to build connections and community in Web3.”

It allows users with usernames registered with UD (such as .crypto, .wallet or .x) to message each other safely and securely.

According to Aaron Quirk, Principal Engineer at Unstoppable Domains:

Message anyone on other XMTP-enabled platforms, including Coinbase Wallet and Lens apps, by typing in their wallet address or domain. Similarly, anyone using an XMTP-enabled messaging app can message your Unstoppable domain or wallet address, and it will appear directly in the Unstoppable app.

Unstoppable messaging is compatible with any wallet address that’s associated with a domain.

In the future, UD aims to enable dApps and businesses to use Unstoppable Messaging. It comes with the integration with Push Protocol and, reportedly, would serve to better connect communities.

Messages are encrypted and stored on XMTP’s decentralized network, so only the directly involved parties can access them. And much like with regular messaging apps, you can block people or change your messaging preferences. You can access your messages on any platform that uses XMTP, so they will be “preserved and accessible to you no matter what happens to Unstoppable.”

The messaging feature was first introduced to the public in March, but it received its official launch on August 23rd.

In essence, a UD username is a shortened version of your wallet address, which allows easier usage since it eliminates the need to remember the string of letters and numbers.

A month ago, Coinbase Wallet also introduced an instant messaging feature on their platform. It’s powered by XMTP, and users can interact using their Ethereum identities.
