ZK Stack will tap into "hyperchains" to make interoperable protocols and sovereign chain ecosystems.
The pathbreaking Ethereum zkSync Era, a zero-knowledge proof scaling system, has launched its counter to the Superchain design of Optimism, dubbed the ZK Stack.
The innovative solution initiates the creation of a series of custom blockchains powered by ZK, known as Hyperchains, functioning as an additional layer to the prevailing Layer-2 protocol.

The Hyperchains are structured to be interoperable and composable, thus facilitating rapid liquidity transfers and instant flash loans across protocols within the ecosystem.
The ZK Stack is somewhat reminiscent of the Superchain network of L2s, which was introduced by Optimism alongside the announcement of Coinbase's BASE as its first addition.
According to Alex Gluchowski, zkSync's CEO and co-founder, the ZK Stack eliminates the necessity for insecure and cumbersome token bridges, typically the exploited vulnerabilities in significant crypto breaches. Gluchowski revealed:
ZK Stack <is> now available for people to start building and we already have the first products we're working with to build it, and this will be live on the testnet definitely by the end of the year.
Although Gluchowski predicts over 95% of dApps to transition directly to L2, Hyperchains will cater to projects with distinct requirements concerning privacy, speed, and data availability. Among the potential users, there are games, social networks, low-latency exchanges, and banks.
Drawing parallels between the ZK Stack and the internet's infrastructure, Gluchowski highlighted the limitless expansion potential of the network. He stated:
You can always add more servers, more cables, more connections and grow it from 1000 servers to 1 million servers to 1 billion servers. Blockchains today are not having this property.
The ZK Stack will leverage recursive scaling, which involves grouping transactions into a ZK proof and then bundling a series of these proofs into a single one for progressively superior compression. This design enables the system to scale up to any level of demand.
zkSync Era's introduction of Hyperchains through the ZK Stack marks an exciting milestone in Ethereum scaling solutions, showcasing the promising potential for future enhancements.
