zkSync Announces ZK Rollup on the Ethereum Testnet

zkSync Announces ZK Rollup on the Ethereum Testnet

The zkEVM testnet will enable developers to "build and deploy decentralized applications in a low-fee, highly scalable layer-2 environment" with Ethereum’s programming language Solidity.

Earlier in 2021, zkSync had only mentioned the plans for the Rollup protocol which offers developers scalability via a fresh L2 network and lower transaction fees. However, on February 22nd, the blockchain solution provider informed users that the protocol’s public testnet went live.

According to the official post, the zkEVM system will try to "avoid reliance on human operators to validate and finalize the legitimacy of transactions but instead rely on cryptography." This will ensure much faster transaction speed, because they would be automatically validated by the protocol.

Likewise, the zkEVM will be compatible with 11 separate bridges including PolyNetwork, Hop Exchange, Nomad, Celer, Orbiter, LayerZero, Connext, DAI Wormhole, Composable, ZigZag, and deBridge.

The protocols’ key objective is to eliminate the high amount of gas fees on the Ethereum blockchain without touching the security and privacy of the network. This will make zkEVM decentralized, and allow the ecosystem to be tweaked and upgraded on the Ethereum network.

After fully launching the zkEVM, the zero-knowledge solution protocol will become a dream come true for some blockchain developers who have already expressed their enthusiasm on social media.

Intentions for the project were hinted in late January of 2022 when BitDAO and zkSync launched a $200M backed treasury platform zkDAO.
