US and UK Sign Deal to Boost Quantum, AI, and Advanced Nuclear Tech

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom have agreed to cooperate on a number of new technologies.

This includes artificial intelligence (AI), nuclear energy, quantum computing, and mobile communication systems.

On September 18, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to begin this collaboration. The agreement is not legally binding and does not change any current policies or financial commitments.

One of the key goals is to develop quantum computing tools. This includes hardware, software, algorithms, and common standards that would let systems from both countries work with one another.

There is also interest in early research into future mobile networks, such as 6G, to strengthen future communication infrastructure.

Both countries plan to build and test "advanced" nuclear power systems. These include nuclear fusion reactors, which generate energy by combining atoms, rather than splitting them as traditional fission reactors do. Fusion creates less radiation and carries fewer safety risks.

During a press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Donald Trump spoke about the economic impact of the partnership. He said the collaboration had already led to $350 billion in deals and would help ensure the UK becomes a key supplier of AI technology.

The two countries will set up a working group within the next six months to guide their joint efforts. They also plan to hold yearly meetings to track progress.

Meanwhile, China introduced plans to integrate AI into daily life and the economy. How? Read the full story.
