Teens Jailed After $4.3 Million Crypto Robbery Caught on Police Video

Three teenagers have been given youth custody after a robbery in London, where they forced a man to hand over $4.3 million in cryptocurrency.

Police said the group used a wrench and knives to threaten the victim inside his flat after pretending to deliver a package.

A video released by the Metropolitan Police shows how the teens gained access by posing as delivery workers. Once inside, they demanded the victim’s cryptocurrency and left with both the digital assets and his BMW.

Officers later linked the group to the crime through social media posts and vehicle tracking data. According to police, the teenagers travelled from Sheffield to London on June 17, 2024, to carry out the robbery.

After leaving the scene, they recorded themselves in the stolen BMW and posted the clip on Snapchat. Investigators used this footage to confirm their identities and place them at the flat.

The stolen car triggered an automatic number plate recognition alert less than three hours later on the M1 in Northamptonshire. Police eventually stopped the vehicle on the M6 in Warwickshire after a short pursuit.

The victim’s cryptocurrency was located within 72 hours and returned to him two weeks later.

All three defendants pleaded guilty to charges related to the robbery and car theft. Their combined sentences total 16 years in youth detention, with individual terms ranging from 46 to 80 months.
