Crypto PAC Pours $1.5 Million Into Effort to Unseat Texas Rep. Al Green

Protect Progress, a national group that backs cryptocurrency policy, plans to spend $1.5 million against Texas Representative Al Green in the upcoming Democratic primary.

The group, linked to the Fairshake network, argued that Green has taken positions that limit the crypto industry's growth.

Protect Progress, an affiliate of the crypto PAC Fairshake, told The Hill on February 12, "As a member of the Financial Services Committee, Representative Al Green has decided to try and stop American innovation in its tracks".

Green has served Texas’s 9th congressional district since 2005. He voted against two major crypto-related bills that passed the House last year: the GENIUS Act, which focused on stablecoin rules, and the CLARITY Act, which dealt with broader digital asset oversight.

Protect Progress said these votes show a pattern of opposing an industry that has gained a strong presence in Texas. The group said:

We are committed to electing new members who embrace innovation, growth and wealth creation for all Americans.

Green is set to run against Christian Menefee in March, when Democrats will pick a nominee for a newly shaped district in the Houston area.

Texas, along with Arkansas and North Carolina, will hold one of the earliest primaries on March 3. The general election takes place on November 3.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump was expected to nominate former Fed governor Kevin Warsh as Jerome Powell’s successor. What did he say? Read the full story.
