The targets were reportedly individuals believed to own large amounts of digital currency. Authorities also said some of the alleged planning happened while at least one of the accused was serving time in a prison in Edinburgh.

The prosecution stated that Barr and Letham discussed how to gain access to cryptocurrency and how it could be transferred.

In addition to the conspiracy charges, they are also facing allegations related to a break-in at a home in Midlothian. During that incident, several items were allegedly taken, including a crypto wallet, electronics, jewelry, and a key.

Investigators noted that the two men also considered returning to the same property for another attempted theft, with the goal of taking more cryptocurrency.

According to the report, both men have denied the charges. Their trial is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
