Napster, once known for music piracy, has been purchased by artificial intelligence (AI) company Infinite Reality in a $207 million deal.
The new owner plans to expand Napster into a virtual music platform that includes digital concerts, online merchandise, and interactive fan spaces.
In a March 25 statement, Infinite Reality said users will be able to join 3D environments where they can attend virtual performances, join group listening sessions, and buy exclusive products tied to artists. These digital spaces are meant to create new ways for fans and musicians to connect.

The company also plans to give artists access to tools powered by AI. These tools will help musicians manage their communities, understand fan behavior, and promote their content across other platforms owned by Infinite Reality, including its Esports teams.
Jon Vlassopulos, Napster's CEO, said the decision fits with how the internet is changing. He described a future where fans could attend shows in virtual rooms, talk to artists, and buy digital and physical items directly from the event.
Napster’s history began in 1999 when it launched as a peer-to-peer service that let users share music files. The platform quickly gained attention but was shut down by court order in 2001 after multiple lawsuits over copyright violations.
