Meta Rejects Lawsuit Claim Over WhatsApp Chat Access

The denial came after several users filed a lawsuit in a US court on January 23, which accused Meta of misleading them about WhatsApp’s privacy features.

The case was submitted in San Francisco by users from countries including Australia, Mexico, South Africa, and India. They argued that the app’s end-to-end encryption is not as private as Meta claims and are seeking financial compensation.

Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, responded on X on January 26. He called the allegations “categorically false and absurd", while adding that the lawsuit was a “frivolous work of fiction".

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov expressed support for the lawsuit. He stated, “You’d have to be braindead to believe WhatsApp is secure in 2026. When we analyzed how WhatsApp implemented its ‘encryption’, we found multiple attack vectors".
