On November 20, Google is introducing new safety features in India to reduce digital fraud.
The company is adding two tools: one that detects possible scam calls on its own devices and another that alerts users during risky screen-sharing sessions in financial apps.
The call protection feature works through Gemini Nano, Google’s built-in artificial intelligence (AI) system. When turned on, it checks calls from numbers not saved in the phone and warns users if it suspects a scam.

The check happens only on the phone itself; no audio is stored or sent to Google. A short beep is played during the call so both sides know that detection is active. This function is off by default and applies only to unknown callers.
Currently, the tool is available only for Pixel 9 phones and newer models in India. It supports English-speaking users, and the alerts appear only in English.
At the same time, Google is testing Indian finance apps Navi, Paytm, and Google Pay. This program focuses on scams that trick people into sharing their screens, then capture sensitive information like PINs or one-time passwords.
The new feature gives on-screen warnings if users start sharing their display in these apps. Phones running Android 11 or newer will show these alerts.
