GitHub Copilot Levels Up: Microsoft Turns AI Into a Real Coding Teammate

Microsoft shared an update at its Build 2025 event that GitHub Copilot is being developed into an AI assistant that can write full pieces of code on its own based on what a developer wants to build.

The idea is to let programmers explain their goals in regular language, and then have Copilot figure out how to make it happen. This new approach, also known as "vibe coding", shifts the focus from typing each line to guiding the direction of the project.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella showed how Copilot can take on tasks like assigning GitHub issues, then work in a secure test environment. Once it finishes, it sends a message to the user, who can then check and approve the results.

In a May 19 post on X, Nadella said:

Copilot can now learn your company’s unique tone and language. It is all about taking that expertise you have as a firm and further amplifying it so everyone has access.

He also said that Microsoft is sharing the base technology behind Copilot, so others can build their own custom versions. These could focus on things like reviewing code or handling reliability tasks.

Additionally, GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke stated in GitHub's blog post, "As the agent works, it pushes commits to a draft pull request, and you can track it every step of the way through the agent session logs".

He also noted that even as Copilot becomes more independent, it still follows the rules already set up in a project.

Meanwhile, on May 14, stablecoin issuer Tether USDT $0.9959 introduced a new project called QVAC. What is it? Read the full story.
