Florida Governor Pledges to “Protect” Bitcoin if He Becomes Next US President

DeSantis claims that the only reason authorities don't like crypto "is because they don’t control it."

Ron DeSantis, an American politician serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019, is jumping into the 2024 United States Presidential election with a promise to “protect” Bitcoin (BTC).

The governor of Florida unveiled the news during a Twitter broadcast, which was hosted by venture capitalist David Sacks and participated by Twitter’s owner Elon Musk.

During the speech, the man didn’t deny that investing in cryptocurrencies is not a risk-proof activity. However, DeSantis claimed that crypto investors are “sophisticated” and “can make decisions.”

On top of that, the man claimed that if he becomes president, DeSantis, and his team will “protect the ability to do things like Bitcoin.” Moreover, the governor of Florida added:

You have every right to do Bitcoin. The only reason these people in Washington don’t like it, is because they don’t control it.

DeSantis did not forget to comment on the most important topics currently touched upon in the crypto sphere, such as the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) scrutiny of the crypto sector.

Florida’s governor pushed the blame on Congress, claiming that the governmental body has “never addressed” cryptocurrencies, allowing SEC “to just do it on their own.” DeSantis claims that this allowed the securities regulator to create a space where “people can not operate.”

I just don’t have an itch to have to control everything that people may be doing in this space, and I think that the current regime — clearly they have it out for Bitcoin.

Ron DeSantis also through the shade at current US President, Joe Biden, claiming that if the Democrat stays for another term, his administration would “end up killing” the crypto industry.

With more than a year left until the US Presidential elections, set to take place in November 2024, the candidates are already gearing up for the fight.

Recently, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became the first presidential candidate ever to accept Bitcoin (BTC) donations. Following his lead, another candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also started accepting BTC donations.
