David Sacks, who serves as an adviser on artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency matters, has addressed concerns about the time he has spent in his temporary government role.

Sacks' spokesperson rejected suggestions that he may have exceeded the permitted number of workdays allowed for temporary federal employees.

The issue surfaced following a letter signed by Senator Elizabeth Warren along with other lawmakers, which asked whether Sacks had exceeded the 130-day limit allowed for a "special government employee" (SGE).

They urged him to clarify how many days he has worked since President Donald Trump took office on January 20.

According to calculations based on weekdays that exclude public holidays, 167 days have passed since the president’s inauguration. For Sacks to stay within the 130-day rule, he would have needed to be off-duty for at least 37 of those days.

In response, Sacks’s representative explained that he tracks his workdays and spaces them out, rather than working consecutively.

The 130-day restriction for SGEs is designed to reduce potential conflicts of interest, since individuals in this role often hold positions in private companies while advising the government.

They pointed out that through Craft Ventures and other business interests, Sacks remains financially connected to industries that fall under his current responsibilities.

They also noted that the White House had granted him a waiver from certain ethics rules, which allowed him to retain those investments while advising on related issues.
