Cluely: The AI Assistant Helping Users "Cheat on Everything"

Cluely, an artificial intelligence (AI) based desktop assistant, has drawn attention and sparked discussions on social media.

The tool runs in the background during live video calls, listening to conversations and offering suggested replies from ChatGPT, without alerting the software designed to catch cheating. It currently works on Mac, with a Windows version in progress.

Cluely was launched by Roy Lee, who previously built something similar called Interview Coder. That project got him expelled from Columbia University after he shared details from a disciplinary hearing related to its use.

Lee has raised $5.3 million to expand Cluely, which he describes as a tool to "cheat on everything" when it comes to getting help during interviews, tests, and more. The team behind Cluely argues that tools like theirs are just part of how technology evolves.

However, critics argue that this is not progress—it is cheating. Christ First, an AI educator and creator, stated in a post on X, "Cluely, a new AI startup, shows us the future of lying. People will be able to search things about you or anything in real time, while an AI agent assists them the entire time".

Additionally, Dave Craige, a startup mentor, replied to Lee's post on X promoting Cluely, "But isn’t the entire point of your startup for people to cheat on their interviews to get a job? How is that a good thing? Do you not have any ethics?"

Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently responded on X to a question about how much polite ChatGPT chats are costing the company. What did he say? Read the full story.
