Announced during a livestream event, the browser is available for macOS users worldwide. Versions for Windows, Android, and iOS are expected soon, although no specific release dates have been provided.

ChatGPT Atlas offers an AI assistant built directly into the browsing experience. For users on paid ChatGPT Plus or Pro plans, a feature called agent mode is also available.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted during the launch that this browser reflects the company’s vision of how people might use the internet in the future, through a more interactive, conversational interface. He also described ChatGPT Atlas as fast, easy to use, and efficient.

ChatGPT Atlas is based on Chromium, the same open-source foundation used by Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This allows Atlas to support familiar web features while embedding AI tools more deeply into the experience.

The livestream included several members of the ChatGPT Atlas team. These included Will Ellsworth (AI research), Adam Fry (product lead for ChatGPT Search), Ben Goodger (a developer with past experience on Chrome and Firefox), Ryan O’Rouke (interface design), Justin Rushing (formerly with Apple), and Pranav Vishnu.

Recently, Perplexity, an AI search company, released its Comet browser for free. What features does the browser have? Read the full story.
