AFP Protección to Launch Bitcoin Option for Select Investors
Key Takeaways
- AFP Protección plans to launch a Bitcoin-linked investment fund for select clients after personalized risk assessments;
- The new fund will let qualified investors allocate a small portion of their portfolios to Bitcoin for diversification;
- Traditional assets like bonds and stocks will remain central, with Bitcoin exposure offered only as an optional add-on.
AFP Protección, one of Colombia’s largest private pension and severance fund managers, plans to introduce a new investment fund with Bitcoin
The company’s president, Juan David Correa, confirmed this plan in an interview with Valora Analitik. He said the fund will only be available to selected clients through a personalized consultation process.
This process will help determine each person’s risk level and decide whether they qualify to invest a small part of their portfolio in Bitcoin.

Correa said, “The most important element is diversification. Those who can participate will find a space for a percentage of their portfolio, if they so wish, to be exposed to this type of asset".
Protección explained that the Bitcoin-related fund will not change how most Colombian pension money is managed. Traditional investments, such as bonds, stocks, and other common assets, will continue to make up the majority of pension portfolios.
The new fund is intended to serve as an additional option for qualified clients seeking to broaden their investment mix.
Founded in 1991, AFP Protección manages over 220 trillion Colombian pesos (around $55 billion) for more than 8.5 million clients. The company handles both mandatory and voluntary pension accounts, as well as severance savings.
