zkSync Lite Bids Farewell: Users Urged to Withdraw Funds Before 2026

On December 7, the team behind zkSync Lite announced plans to discontinue the zero-knowledge rollup protocol by 2026.

Designed as an early scaling solution for Ethereum ETH $3,153.79 , zkSync Lite, previously known as ZKsync 1.0, helped users cut down on transaction fees while maintaining decentralized security.

The transition to shutting down zkSync Lite follows several years of progressive upgrades in Ethereum's ecosystem. The developers stated that no urgent action is required from users at this time, but emphasized that all funds must be withdrawn before the sunset date.

Most users have already started using alternative products such as zkSync Era or other upgraded zero-knowledge solutions.

This scaling network was once a top choice for individuals seeking lower gas fees and faster transactions on Ethereum. By the time of the latest update, approximately $50 million had been moved into the protocol by users, according to L2BEAT data.

Besides regular deposits and withdrawals, the protocol also supported other features, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and decentralized application pilots.

The team explained that contracts, tokens, and NFTs already exist on other updated networks, so shutting down zkSync Lite would not create any issues for the ecosystem.

Developers confirmed that withdrawal and bridging options will remain in place until the sunset date. Applications built on zkSync Lite are encouraged to migrate or redeploy on newer zero-knowledge platforms.

Recently, ZKsync’s co-creator, Alex Gluchowski, proposed a new direction for the platform’s governance token. What is it? Read the full story.
