Tom Brady Takes Heat for FTX at Netflix's Comedy Roast

Tom Brady, the renowned NFL star, took the spotlight at the recent Netflix comedy special called "The Roast of Tom Brady," in which he was grilled by a panel of former teammates, players and comedians.

No topic seemed off-limits in the roast; the jokes ranged from making fun of Brady's sports career to his 2021 divorce from model Gisele Bündchen, as well as his financial involvement with the now-bankrupt crypto exchange FTX.

The event took place in the Kia Forum arena, which comedian and roast host Kevin Hart jokingly pointed out in his opening monologue, saying:

Why didn’t we go to the Crypto.com Arena downtown? Well, the reason why we didn’t go there is because we didn’t want to remind Tom’s fans of how much money he owes them.

Adding to the topic, comedian Nikki Glaser also took a swipe at Brady for his involvement with FTX, highlighting his personal loss of $30 million in crypto.

While poking fun at Brady, Glaser actually laughed at crypto as a whole. The punchline involved Brady's former teammate Rob Gronkowski—who was often humorously targeted about his intellect—saying that even he knew crypto was not "real money."

Brady's financial connection with FTX started in 2021 and extended beyond promotions, as he and his ex-wife took an equity stake in the company. The two, alongside other celebrity endorsers of FTX, were named in a class-action lawsuit filed in 2022, which accused them of taking advantage of "unsophisticated investors" in favor of the crypto exchange.

The roast, while humorous and entertaining, highlights the risks and responsibilities of promoting financial products, illustrating the potential repercussions celebrities may face when the products fail.

Meanwhile, the main man behind FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, has suffered his share of repercussions being sentenced to 25 years in prison. However, he is trying to take action to make the consequences as light as possible, as he has appealed his sentence and conviction.

In addition, he recently agreed to aid the FTX investor lawsuit against celebrity promoters, so that they drop their charges against him.
