Prosecutors Seek Supreme Court Intervention in Do Kwon Extradition

Montenegrin courts have been deliberating on whether to extradite Kwon to South Korea or the United States, both of which seek his custody over alleged criminal activities linked to the collapse of Terraform Labs.

Following a recent decision favoring his extradition to South Korea, prosecutors have suggested that the Supreme Court might overturn this outcome.

The prosecutors argue that the appellate court improperly rejected an appeal from Kwon's defense team, asserting that only the Supreme Court has the jurisdiction to make a final legal ruling in this case.

The prosecutors' statement highlighted a significant procedural misstep. They accused the court of opting for an abbreviated process instead of regular proceedings and taking the Justice Minister's exclusive authority to decide on extradition matters.

These legal proceedings in Montenegro started in 2023, when Kwon was arrested in March 2023 for using fake travel documents.

This request not only prolongs Kwon's legal battle but also underscores the complex international legal dynamics at play.
