Oasis Debuts Sapphire, Offering Privacy-First Approach for Ethereum dApps

Oasis Debuts Sapphire, Offering Privacy-First Approach for Ethereum dApps

Oasis Foundation director claims Sapphire can be used to develop privacy-enabled blockchain gaming, private voting, key management, and many more.

Oasis has introduced an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain Sapphire designed with robust privacy features to attract decentralized applications (dApps).

The debut of Sapphire, coupled with the Oasis Privacy Layer (OPL), allows existing EVM network-based dApps to incorporate Sapphire's enhanced privacy features without needing to execute cross-chain token swaps.

On top of that, Jernej Kos, director of the Oasis Foundation, highlighted that the OPL enables developers to incorporate Sapphire's privacy-first features into their dApps, without transferring their operations to the Oasis blockchain.

Being fully EVM-compatible means that developers can build private smart contracts in an environment that they are already familiar with — for example, Solidity smart contracts running on the EVM as known from Ethereum.

Oasis Foundation director further highlighted that this functionality bolsters the deployment of dApps across various chains and ensures compatibility.

When talking about the launch, Kos provided an example of a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) smart contract that could reside on Ethereum while private voting takes place on Sapphire, with the final results being returned to the core DAO contract.

In this way, the privacy capabilities of Sapphire are exposed to any other chain.

He pointed out that most dApps developed on Oasis focus on privacy and let users fully control their on-chain data, including its access and sharing.

The Oasis Foundation director underscored several use cases for the developer on the Oasis chain, including confidential decentralized exchanges, confidential nonfungible tokens, decentralized identification, privacy-enabled blockchain gaming, account abstraction, private voting, sealed-bid auctions, and key management.

The arrival of Sapphire and its offering of advanced privacy features signify an exciting development in the blockchain ecosystem. This enhancement could usher in a new era of privacy-centric dApps, and potentially reshape user interactions within the blockchain space.
