This is the third time the M2E game suffers from a DDoS attack in the last few months.
Launched on Solana’s blockchain, the move-to-earn game dubbed STEPN was hit with a number of denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks this weekend. On June 5, STEPN announced the news on its Twitter account with some guidelines for the players:
On top of that, even though STEPN stated that it would restore the servers in 12 hours, no announcement has been made yet. “Our engineers are working hard to fix the problems. We will announce here once recovery is complete. Thank you so much for everyone’s patience,” Stepn initially said.

Interestingly enough, the hackers tried to attack STEPN after it unveiled a new anti-cheating system dubbed “Stepn’s Model for Anti-Cheating” (SMAC) last week. With such a system, STEPN will be able to block users that fake their motion data and supposedly “walk” by sitting on their sofas in order to easily earn money.
However, the upgrade had some flaws. For instance, SMAC misidentified some legitimate users as bots and caused various network issues. STEPN previously explained:
“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to users. The anti-cheating update may seem small, but it is actually an important cornerstone of Stepn's long-term development.”
STEPN is a Web3 running application based on the Solana blockchain with a fun game and social elements. Players are able to earn money by playing the game, earning tokens, and wearing Solana-based non-fungible token sneakers.
It seems as though hackers cannot resist and are keen on destroying the well-known game. For instance, back in April and May, hackers also tried to send a series of DDoS attacks.
In other news, back in May, the NFT-based game implied that it would block users located in mainland China in order to comply with regulatory laws by stopping the support of IP geolocation and GPS services on July 15.
On a happier note, at the beginning of this year, STEPN secured a $5 million seed funding round in order to implement a number of social features, such as an achievement system, and NFT sneaker rent.
