Ledger, the global leader in digital asset security, has officially unveiled its latest device, the Ledger Nano Gen5.
The announcement took place during the Ledger Op3n event at the company's Paris headquarters on October 23, where BitDegree was among the invited guests.
The Gen5 introduces several significant updates and represents a change in how Ledger defines its hardware products.

The new device comes with Transaction Check - a function already available on Ledger's Flex and Stax models - which analyzes transactions and smart contracts before approval. If something looks suspicious, the user gets a warning directly on the device screen.
The Nano Gen5 can also connect directly to decentralized applications (dApps), meaning users no longer need separate wallets or browser extensions to interact with Web3 platforms.
For personalization, the device includes a new customization feature with badges, such as a hammer, frog with a crown, or a duck.
Ledger also announced a partnership with Noah, a fintech platform that connects traditional banking systems with blockchain infrastructure. This integration will let users receive salaries or other fiat payments directly to their Gen5 device.
During the launch, the company also introduced a change in how it refers to its products. Ledger will no longer use the term hardware wallet, replacing it with signer.
The company explained that the old term no longer reflects what the devices actually do. While they still store crypto securely, users rely on them daily to sign transactions, verify logins, and interact with apps and smart contracts. The signer label, the company said, better captures that active role.
To celebrate the launch, Ledger announced a $400,000 giveaway in collaboration with the SUI network, rewarding users who buy, swap, or stake SUI
The Ledger Nano Gen5 will be priced at $179, with a 20% loyalty discount available for existing Ledger users. It's positioned as a solid middle ground between the lower-cost Nano S Plus and the high-end Flex and Stax devices.
