Kraken Teamed Up with Popular Streamer Kitboga to Lure and Catch Scammers

Kraken Teamed Up with Popular Streamer Kitboga to Lure and Catch Scammers

Kraken and Kitboga pull a prank on crypto scammer.

In a surprising move, Kraken, a US-based crypto exchange, teamed up with popular scam-baiting streamer Kitboga to create a fake crypto account and use it to expose scammers.

The collaboration involved Kraken developing a "custom environment" for Kitboga, which he utilized to bait a scammer impersonating President Joe Biden.

In a video clip, Kitboga's fake account had about $450,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC). The scammer, excited about the potential exploit, quickly became irritated when Kitboga's elderly character misentered the wallet address, leading to a wave of swear words.

Interestingly, the wallet address provided by the scammer was hosted by Kraken, which allowed the crypto exchange to identify and flag fraudulent activity.

The collaboration appears to be the brainchild of Kraken's chief security officer, Nick Percoco, and Kitboga himself.

With 1.2 million Twitch followers and 3 million YouTube subscribers, Kitboga is known for his humorous content focused on wasting scammers' time by playing naive characters. He has even managed to take down fraudulent websites by reporting them to the hosting companies.

Recently, Kitboga has highlighted a new BTC-related "social security scam" targeting victims through emails or text messages claiming that a strange purchase was made with their bank account.

However, when victims contact malicious actors, scammers claim that their identities have been stolen and instruct them to withdraw their cash, buy BTC, and send the funds to a "secure government wallet."

Kitboga counters these schemes by having his characters send the funds to the wrong address, adding a touch of humor to the situation.

At the end of April, Kraken challenged the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) demand for sensitive user information, describing it as an "unjustified treasure hunt" and seeking court intervention.
