Ethereum and Dogecoin - Among the Top-10 Google Searches in 2021

Ethereum and Dogecoin - Among the Top-10 Google Searches in 2021

It’s evident that 2021 has been one of the most interesting years for cryptocurrencies, up to this point in time. This year, the crypto market has seen immense growth - this applies to everything from staple cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as multiple altcoins and tokens.

It may be difficult to comprehend just how popular crypto has gotten in the past year, though. This is where Google comes in to help.

On Tuesday, Google issued their annual top search query list. The list is made up of a few different categories - the one of interest here is the “news” section.

In this particular section, two crypto-related queries have managed to breach the “top 10” list. Specifically, the two assets in question are Dogecoin, and Ethereum.

Dogecoin has ranked as the 4th most-searched query in 2021, worldwide, while “Ethereum price” has taken the honorable 10th place.

These two terms weren’t the only finance-related queries to make the news list, however. People also searched for AMC stock (2nd place), and stimulus checks (6th place). Naturally, both topics were of huge interest in the past year, relating to the r/WallStreetBets AMC stock rally in the early part of the year, and the COVID situation in the US, respectively.

It’s not unrealistic to speculate that Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk played a big part in the popularity of Dogecoin. Having tweeted about the crypto asset quite a few times throughout the year, Musk would make the mainstream headlines with seemingly every tweet about the meme-powered currency.

Ethereum has also been in the news, albeit for different reasons. The cryptocurrency behind the project called Ether (often simply referred to as “Ethereum”) has seen significant growth in price all throughout the year, and there have been multiple discussions about a major update expected to happen to the blockchain next year, called ETH 2.0.
