Elon Musk Renames Its Social Media Platform Twitter to "X"

Elon Musk Renames Its Social Media Platform Twitter to "X"

Twitter says farewell to its famous bird logo and welcomes the elegant "X" instead.

Elon Musk has once again made headlines, this time, for transforming the well-loved social media platform, Twitter, into a fresh entity called "X."

The rebranding didn't just stop at the name. It also included a comprehensive visual change, replacing Twitter's famous bird emblem with a minimalist "X," and giving up the traditional blue for a sleek black.

The web address also morphed into x.com, a name tightly bound with Musk's own history. It resonates with his previous venture, an early online banking initiative, also called X.com, which he sold to PayPal.

Musk's fondness for the letter "X" is further evinced in his other businesses, such as SpaceX and in the names of various Tesla models.

Musk laid the groundwork for this transformation in March by creating X Corp, a new umbrella for the former Twitter. Musk envisions X to serve as a multi-functional "super app," in line with his larger plans of diversifying the platform's features.

On the way toward the "super app," Twitter introduced several crypto-related features, such as Bitcoin (BTC) price quotes feature, which can be accessed through the social media platform's search tool.

In a recent interview, Musk reaffirmed his ambition for X to serve as an "everything app." This concept is already popular in China with applications like WeChat, providing multiple services ranging from messaging and calling to making payments and booking restaurants without having to leave the app.

Musk is optimistic about the potential for X. If executed properly, he believes it could be a go-to platform for multiple services including finance, banking, payments, and data. Musk even suggests it could eventually dominate "half of the global financial system."

Despite Musk's grand vision, Twitter's rebrand to X hasn't been met with universal applause. Thousands of social media platform users expressed their disapproval of the replacement of the name and familiar blue bird symbol.
