The Dogecoin Foundation has successfully registered DOGE and Dogecoin as trademarks amidst people using the memecoin for malicious purposes.
With the success of meme-based altcoins such as DOGE and SHIB, scammers have been using their notoriety to defraud the community with fake projects without any affiliation.
According to a Twitter post by the Dogecoin Foundation, the project has registered Dogecoin, alongside the shortened name Doge and the project's logos, with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EU IPO) as official trademarked items.

The foundation, alongside its board member Jens Wiechers, explained that the decision was made not for personal gain, but rather for the multiple attempts at registering items related to Dogecoin by people who are not affiliated with its creation.
Likewise, the decision to trademark Dogecoin was presumably related to Ross Nicoll, who resigned from the Director’s position of the Dogecoin Foundation.
According to his personal blog post, there have been multiple attempts at registering Dogecoin by unaffiliated parties who claimed to be the founders of the project. This led to a stressful environment when trying to trademark the memecoin in the name of the Dogecoin Foundation.
Not only that, back in February, the actual creator of Dogecoin Billy Markus addressed the situation with people trying to replicate the success of DOGE by creating their own memecoins, and grabbing the attention of entrepreneurs involved in crypto like Elon Musk and Mark Cuban.
