Crypto Scam Alert: Jupiter DEX and Former Malaysian PM’s X Accounts Hacked

On February 5, hackers took over the X accounts of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Jupiter, a Solana SOL $65.74 -based decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator.

The compromised accounts were used to promote scam meme coins, which misled followers into potential financial losses.

Scammers hijacked the X account of Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s longest-serving Prime Minister, to promote another fake token, MALAYSIA.

Yu Xian, founder of security firm SlowMist, pointed out that the compromised account was used to spread misleading investment opportunities. He stated in a post on X, "Note that the account of the former Malaysian Prime Minister has been hacked."

Meanwhile, the hackers used Jupiter’s main account to advertise a fraudulent token with the ticker MEOW. Some users reported that the token briefly reached a $30 million market cap before disappearing.

@beanimaxi, the pseudonymous founder of crypto venture firm GM Capital, commented that traders lost millions within minutes due to the incident.

Jupiter’s mobile team quickly issued a warning, urging users not to click on any links or buy tokens mentioned in the hacked posts. The team stated they were working to regain control of the account.

Co-founder Siong Ong reassured the community that while the social account had been breached, Jupiter’s core systems remained secure due to their multi-signature protection. He confirmed, "All our programs are in a 4/7 multisig. They are secure. We will go through everything again."

In January 2025, the X account of Dean Norris, an actor from the television series Breaking Bad, was recently hacked. What was the purpose of the breach? Read the full story.
