Canadian Police Looking to Shut Down Crypto Donations for Truckers

Canadian Police Looking to Shut Down Crypto Donations for Truckers

The police force in Ottawa is now pressing crypto service providers to prevent trucker protestors from receiving donations in cryptocurrencies.

Ottawa has been riddled with trucker protests for more than a few weeks now, with some seeing it as a good cause, while others are tired of getting their ears blown out by the constant honking.

The Canadian police have been trying to get rid of the protestors by issuing notices and asking them to leave, according to a local news agency. However, the protests did not seem to go anywhere.

With that being said, protestors were urged to leave downtown Ottawa or they will be issued fines or sent to prison. On top of that, the recently issued Emergencies Act by Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, lets banks halt any financial operations made by the Freedom Convoy protestors.

Likewise, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police sent out messages to various crypto exchanges asking them to restrict access to specific digital wallet addresses that belong to the trucker protestors.

While the crypto donations have been flowing in quite well, reaching almost $1M, they’ve had even more support from previous platforms, raising just over $19M. However, all of the earlier funds from websites like GoFundMe were frozen by the orders of the government.
