AMC Theatres CEO Confirms Payments in Memecoins

AMC Theatres CEO Confirms Payments in Memecoins

The largest movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (trading name - AMC Theatres) will be accepting altcoins such as DOGE and SHIB.

While the meme coin craze has settled down after the booming entrance of NFTs, a couple of these coins gained sort of a "special status" amongst the community, and were recognized by prominent figures in the crypto industry such as Elon Musk and Mark Cuban

On February 28th, Adam Aron, who is the CEO of AMC Theatres, posted a tweet announcing that Dogecoin And Shiba Inu will become viable payment methods for services at the company.

Based on the post, Aron told fans that meme coin payments will go through BitPay, and it will go live by March 19 on the company’s official website, while DOGE and SHIB support for the app will come only around April 16.

Even though AMC Theatres have previously implemented crypto support that would allow customers to pay via main virtual assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, a lot of them wanted payment options with the two most prominent altcoins. Seemingly, customers will get what they’ve wished for.

This isn’t the first time that meme coins were accepted as payment for goods and services. While Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks NBA team was amongst the first to accept DOGE as payment for tickets and merch, Elon Musk enabled Dogecoin payments for select products on Tesla’s website.

In fact, back in December of 2021, one restaurant owner decided to open a crypto-themed fast food restaurant and accepted DOGE amongst other cryptocurrencies for food.
