Aave Refocuses on DeFi, Phases Out Avara and Family Wallet

Founder and CEO Stani Kulechov shared an update on X. He explained that Avara, which included projects such as the Family crypto wallet and, previously, the Lens social platform, is no longer needed as the company expands Aave’s reach.
The Apple iOS-based Family wallet will also be discontinued. Kulechov said the team realized that bringing more people into crypto requires tools built for specific goals, such as saving, rather than open-ended wallets that try to do everything.

He added that Aave is currently operating as a unified group of designers, engineers, and blockchain developers, with a single goal: to make DeFi accessible to everyone.
Avara’s blog post confirmed that all products, including Aave App, Aave Pro, and Aave Kit, will now fall directly under Aave Labs. The decision is meant to keep the structure simple and consistent.
Current Family wallet users will not lose access to their funds. Their accounts will remain part of Aave’s core systems, but the standalone iOS app will gradually close over the next year. No new users will be accepted after April 1.
Existing users can continue using the app until April 1, 2027, and manage their money through Aave’s website at any time.
