Google Translate Adds AI-Powered Language Practice Tools

Google has introduced a new learning tool inside its Translate app, designed to support language practice using artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a blog post published on August 26, this feature offers speaking and listening exercises tailored to the learner’s current level and learning goals. It also helps users monitor their progress with regular updates based on completed activities.

These interactive sessions are available to those just starting with a new language, as well as to those who want to review or improve vocabulary and fluency.

After selecting the "practice" button in the app, users can set their language level and focus areas. From there, Google Translate creates scenarios for either listening to conversations and tapping recognized words or for responding with spoken phrases.

The feature will be rolled out in a limited capacity in the Translate app on both Android and iOS. It will be available for English speakers learning Spanish or French, as well as for speakers of Spanish, French, and Portuguese who wish to learn English.

Additionally, Google Translate includes improved real-time conversation support. The app facilitates live, back-and-forth speech translation in over 70 languages, including Hindi, Arabic, Tamil, Korean, Spanish, and French.

By tapping the "Live Translate" option, users can speak in their own language while hearing and reading translations from the other person’s language.

These live conversation updates are now available in the United States, India, and Mexico.
