Working in the visual effects department in Hollywood seems fascinating, right? You can create something unreal out of nothing by simply clicking buttons on your computer. You control the weather and the environment. You know all the fantastic beasts and where to find them.
There’s a lot of software choices that can help you create breathtaking effects, and each of them has something great to offer. That’s precisely why a professional visual effects artist Vicki Lau has created a one-of-a-kind Adobe Photoshop (PS), After Effects (AE), and Maya tutorial that combines the must-know elements of all three programs. In over four hours of video lectures, Vicki Lau will teach you all there is to know about using software to achieve your desired result and blow away your audience!
Before we start learning how to create and manipulate visual effects, we need to have something to work on. Vicki Lau will start her tutorial by sharing valuable advice on what you should have in mind when shooting a video for later use.
Then, we will move on to the actual studio work: modeling in Maya, creating textures in Photoshop, and compositing the final scenes in After Effects.
First, we will dive into the Maya tutorial. You will get to know every aspect of 3D modeling in Maya, including curves, surfaces, and details. In the video lectures, Vicki Lau will show you each step of working with the program and explain every detail. It might seem hard to understand Maya for beginners at first, but with an industry professional to guide you, it will seem like a piece of cake!
A Maya modeling tutorial would be great on its own, but Vicki Lau wants you to take the best from each program – that’s why you will learn to work with materials using Adobe Photoshop! In practical lessons, you will find out how to work with UV maps and textures. Then, we will go back to the Maya tutorial to learn 3D animations and manipulating the light.
All those magnificent creations you did need to meet in one complete scene. This part of post-production is called compositing. For that, you will learn how to use After Effects – and Vicki Lau is ready to help you master it!
You will learn both basic and 3D compositing, as well as working with sound. Finally, you will render and export your masterpiece. By the time you finish this Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Maya tutorial, you will have a finished piece of work with your own special effects created from scratch!
At the end of this course, you will also find a few bonus lectures. In them, Vicki Lau will share her valuable tips and tricks about getting a job in the Hollywood film industry and proper networking that can help you climb the career ladder.
