DEXs are an instrumental part of the Web3 and crypto landscape. They are one of the pillars of decentralized finance. Within this course, students will learn about why DEXs are so significant, how they function, their perks and drawbacks, and what features they have. There will even be a case study exploring how DEXs are used from the perspective of a new crypto trader to help cement this knowledge and apply it to real-world examples.
Why should anyone care?
Web3 is the newest wave of the internet, focusing on the goal of bringing more autonomy and decentralization to people’s online lives; it is at the cutting edge of web development and user experience. One of the core components of the web3 industry is DeFi, or decentralized finance, and built within DeFi is that of the DEX or decentralized exchange. DEXs are arguably the first applications that allow people to trade money with each other without the need for an intermediary or third party. In this sense, they promote autonomy and independence in a way that traditional finance never can.
However, DEXs are only one element of the wider DeFi (or decentralized finance) landscape. Like DEXs, DeFi is all about giving independence and freedom to the public without any centralized bodies pulling the strings.
