Godot provides a huge set of common tools, so you can just focus on making your game without reinventing the wheel.
Godot is completely free and open-source under the very permissive MIT license. No strings attached, no royalties, nothing. Your game is yours, down to the last line of engine code.
This course will take you from being a first time game developer within the godot engine to having the confidence to begin going off and creating your own unique platformer games.
Once you have completed this course you will of learned useful things such as:
Changing scenes: This will be useful if you want to have an overworld, such as with mario games, or a level selection screen to pick from.
Pass data between scripts: This will help with keeping data between levels or scenes when entering or finishing a level.
How to interact with objects: Useful for many platformer mechanics from damage and player detection to power-ups and projectiles.
Platform games (often simplified as platformer or jump 'n' run) is a video game genre and subgenre of action games in which the core objective is to move the player character between points in a rendered environment. Once you finish learning the basics you can begin expanding your knowledge to some of the more complex material not covered within this course such as multiplayer, more intelligent AI, projectiles and power-ups!
